Originally from Manila, Kismeth, 31, now lives in sunny San Jose in California, and is loving it. Apart from the perfect weather, San Jose's proximity to the ocean and to the mountains are just some of the great reasons why she's enamored by the west coast.

What do you enjoy best in the country you're in? Any recommendations for travelers going to your new country?

"DIVERSITY and food. Which brings about numerous culture and a chance to experience different things without having to travel far. Small communities hold different festivals annually (Japanese cherry blossom, Greek festival, music festivals, Cinco de mayo etc). Because of diversity and mixed cultures there's plenty of culinary choices in the US.

California weather. It doesn't get too cold and the warm weather reminds me of the Philippines (sans humidity). One of the biggest draw in living here is you're close to the ocean if you want to be at the beach, numerous hiking trails and camp sites if you want to be in one with nature. It’s also not a far drive to ski resorts if you're into snow sports during winter.

Wine country. There's at least 350-400 wineries in California and it's a big draw to tourists. So great wine means exceptional dining.

Rent a car! There's so many great places to see. It's also a cool way to travel across different states without spending too much on airfare.

Be on time! Punctuality is a big deal for Americans and its rude to keep people waiting."
