Cebu, Philippines

In 1565, the Spanish colonized the Philippines. A fleet of 500 men led by Miguel López de Legazpi landed in Cebu and the rest is history. Since then the city of Cebu has become one of the most important locations in Philippine history. Present-day Cebu still features many of the old landmarks that existed during the Spanish colonization such as old churches, monuments, and historical battlefields. Aside from the rich history of the province, Cebu has evolved into a more modern metropolis, littered with office buildings, hotels and shopping malls. The province of Cebu is a beautiful and interesting modern city that is surrounded by smaller islands that feature many white sand beaches. A mixture of quaint provincial living, beach life, and contemporary city living, Cebu is a melting pot of people with different backgrounds. The population of Cebu is mostly of Filipino, Chinese, Spanish and Muslim descent, and it’s this wide array of people that gives Cebu its interesting vibe.

Located in the Visayas region, Cebu is an hour away from the Manila, but being one of the biggest cities in the whole Philippines, It is a hub for international flights wherein you can catch connecting flights all over the world as well as to the neighboring cities of Cebu. Tourism has picked up in the area and it’s not surprising to see visitors from all over the world enjoying the city life and beaches of Cebu. With a myriad ways of getting around the province, Cebu is a backpackers dream considering you can find virgin white sand beaches and other natural landmarks with just a drive or ferry ride away. Without a doubt, Cebu is one of the most exciting cities in the Philippines and it’s hard not to fall in love with the people, weather, food, and natural wonders of this beautiful province.
